Ahh, fall. Should we all just agree that it’s here now? Yes? Excellent!
After all, yesterday was pretty cool and kind of rainy half the day. I needed a jacket part of the day. And I saw people in hoodies!
As I jump for joy about fall slowly approaching, I think it’s safe to say we need a little beverage to sip while we wait for the leaves to fall.
And what’s the official drink of autumn? Why, pumpkin spice ANYTHING, of course. Let’s get out pumpkin spice on, people. I’m SO ready.
Last year I made a pumpkin spice latte. As much as I like lattes and, you know, as much as I’m obsessed with coffee, I thought I’d go a different route.
Who wants hot chocolate?! I mean…who doesn’t want hot chocolate? To me it’s something I can have all year round. There’s one at a coffee shop nearby that’s particularly good.
I like dark hot chocolate, peppermint hot chocolate…I could basically turn this into the shrimp joke from Forest Gump. Hot chocolate any which way!!
But this pumpkin spice hot chocolate is exactly what I’m craving now. It has that rich, chocolate taste that only comes from homemade hot chocolate, and that satisfying fall spice. Mmm. Add some mounds of whip cream and what could be better?
- ½ cup milk
- ⅓ cup heavy whipping cream
- ¼ cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- 1½ tsp pumpkin purée
- ¼ tsp pumpkin pie spice
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Punch of nutmeg
- Whip cream for serving
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, cream, chocolate chips, and cocoa powder until smooth and incorporated, about 3-5 minutes.
- Stir in pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie spice until blended.
- Pout into mugs. Top with whipped cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
