As someone who loves to bake and cook, I tend to make a lot of things that most people would just buy. Case in point: caramel sauce. Now, who doesn’t love a lil’ bit of caramel sauce drizzled on their vanilla ice cream? Mmm. And homemade is just SO much better. I mean, have you even looked at some of those store-bought ice cream toppings? I wanted to get a chocolate one the other day and it’s really hard to find one that actually says chocolate sauce. Most say chocolate-flavored sauce, which I’m pretty sure is advertising speak for “a product we created in a lab to mimic the flavor of chocolate, but which is much more stable so it can sit on store shelves for three years without going bad and still taste fine.” 🙂 No thanks.
But I’m not stuck up about food all the time. 😉 I still go through the cereal aisle and feel my heart leap with joy when I see the Fruity Pebbles box. I’m also still strangely drawn to Lunchables, even though they always kind of let me down. 😉
And another thing I’ve always been drawn to is Werther’s caramels. I’m pretty sure this came from my childhood when there would always be commercials for them whenever A Charlie Brown Christmas or A Garfield Christmas was on. It always made me think they must be really special. The power of advertising! (By the way, that Garfield Christmas show was highly underrated. 🙂
Anyway, where I’m going with this is that although I love making my own caramel, and even though homemade caramel is wonderful and would be great in this hot chocolate, let’s just say “forget it” and indulge our childhood desires by throwing a bunch of Werther’s caramels and instant coffee into some hot chocolate and drinking it until we feel like dancing in our elf pajamas!
Wouldn’t this be a great drink to have at Thanksgiving or Christmas? I’d say it might spoil your appetite, but just like in Gilmore Girls, these meals are what I’ve been training for all year long! 🙂
